Cabernet Franc                                 Recommendations

So here's a cabernet you're probably not familiar with: cabernet franc.

Always in the shadow of kingly cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc is one of those powers behind the throne.  It's a traditional part of the blending in Bordeaux and other cabs you may know.

It ripens earlier and has softer edges as wine which gives balance to the harsher and bolder cabernet sauvignon.

In the US it's part of many of the Meritage wines and more of it is showing up all on its own.

Some winemakers see its promise as a great fit between the tannic tightness of cabernet sauvignon and the big fruitiness of merlot.

It's under the radar for many folks but not in cooler growing areas like upstate New York and Canada.

The best words that describe cabernet franc are attractive and friendly.

It's got a dark berry taste and just seems like it belongs in a carafe on the table between you and good friend sharing a meal.
