Wine of the Week!
Sterling Napa Valley 2005 Sauvignon Blanc $13
Here’s another great Wine of the Week choice for you: the delightfully crispy and pale yellow Sterling 2005 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc.
What you’ll love about this wine is that it’s got the great fruity character of Sauvignon Blanc. To us that means grapefruit and melon with maybe a little citrus tossed in, without overly gassy or herbal flavors, or oakiness from time spent barrel aging.
You see it’s aged for a few months in stainless steel tanks and not oak barrels and you can expect a dry clean finish because it has the nice balance of acidity that makes it really versatile with food. It’s simply a pleasing wine to sip all by itself, with some shrimp or a Saturday lunchtime chicken salad.
This is a wine you drink now and at about thirteen dollars a bottle it can be part of an “any day” wine experience. The Sterling 2005 Sauvignon Blanc is readily available too – another great reason it’s our wine of the week choice for you!
Pop the cork™.

Winery’s Comments:
The majority of the fruit for the 2005 Sauvignon Blanc was grown on various Napa Valley vineyards. Within Napa Valley distinct microclimates and terrains imprint recognizable characteristics on the grapes grown within them.
The 2005 vintage started out wet and cool, followed by heat in August and a cool autumn. The Sauvignon Blanc was harvested in September then fermented and aged in stainless steel.
The Napa Valley grapes provides aromas and flavors of stone fruit, ripe melons and figs, while the cooler climate fruit contribute to the more aggressive side of the varietal, namely an undercurrent of spice and a firm acidity that is signature Sauvignon Blanc.
Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:
When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently. A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list. Well, don't stop buying it because of that. In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.
A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate. They'll vary. Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.
And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly! Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions. Find one (or more) and pop the cork!
