Wine of the Week!

Acacia Chardonnay Carneros 2005   $18

Acacia Chardonnay Wine of the WeekWhen you take a sip of the wine of the week this week it’s going to be like a sip of California sunshine.  This one’s Acacia Chardonnay Carneros 2005.

It’s a Chardonnay that has a brightness to it that just transports me to the breezy rolling hills of the Carneros region.  Carneros is cooler than other parts of Napa and Sonoma, which is why the citrus and delicate tree fruit flavors just seem brighter to us.

Chardonnay’s can often be too big and buttery for a person’s taste, but the Acacia keeps its full bodied richness in balance.  And it’s also why this Chard is really food friendly.

Sure it will pair up with fish and seafood but it’s also great with chicken and turkey.  And if you like veal with lemon it’s a standout.

Acacia Chardonnay Carneros 2005… a taste of California sunshine.  Under twenty dollars and easy to find, it might be a really good addition to the table for Thanksgiving and the upcoming holidays.

Winemaker’s notes:

At Acacia Vineyard our aim is to create a rich, concentrated and focused Chardonnay from our remarkable Carneros fruit. We hand harvested the fruit for our 2005 Carneros Chardonnay, then allowed three hours of skin contact to extract flavors from the skin. A brief period of aeration enabled us to extract those delicious flavors and precipitate out any tannins associated with skin contact. The result is a full-flavored Chardonnay with both concentration and elegance. Vibrant aromas of crème brûlée, ginger, lemon curd and white peach are followed by a creamy entry which blossoms to a full, sweet, peach, nectarine and citrus mid-palate. Medium-bodied with vibrant acidity, the wine finishes long and full.

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:

When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently.  A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list.  Well, don't stop buying it because of that.  In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.

A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate.  They'll vary.  Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.

And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!  Now, all that said, here is a summary of  links to our suggestions.  Find one (or more) and pop the cork!

Read the fine print . . .

Wine consumption can have positive physical benefits or cause possible physical harm . . . the medical community is divided in some areas.  If you have any doubt, check with your doctor before consuming wine or any other alcoholic drink.

Our information is well researched.  Recommendations are based on our opinions at the time of publication.  At the same time, recommendations change.  Also, there may be significant variance in taste depending on storage, shipping, and other factors.
