Wine of the Week!

Louis Jadot Fleurie 2004   $10

Louis Jadot Fleurie 2004 Wine

Here it is, our wine of the week selection for you.  This week it’s a terrific value from France… Louis Jadot Fleurie 2004.

It’s from the Beaujolais region and made from 100% Gamay grapes, a grape that gives us wonderfully fruit forward young drinking wines.

Fleurie is a village wine and vineyard appellation and the wine is lovely, lively and lighter bodied, kind of what you’d expect from a name like Fleurie.

The raspberry-like flavor and lower alcohol make it a delicious sipping wine and what makes it particularly inviting as our Wine of the week is that it’s only about ten dollars a bottle so in a season when there may be lots of guests around, Fleurie is a terrific house wine to have on hand.

Like other lighter style reds serving it cool will bring out the fruity flavor so stick it in the fridge for twenty minutes or so before serving.

Louis Jadot Fleurie 2004 is an easy to like addition to the table.

Comments:

100% Gamay, the pure granite soils yield a medium-bodied wine of sublime floral fragrance, suggesting violets, rose petals and iris. Jadot Fleurie is elegant and plump, with a silky texture and a structure of lovely finesse. Full, ripe red fruits are balanced by a supple freshness and acidity on the palate, ending in a harmonious finish. Best consumed young; it should be drunk from one to four years of its vintage date. The most elegant of the crus of Beaujolais, this delicate, fruited wine shows a silky texture and plump, round structure.

The granite hills of southern Burgundy shelter exquisite vineyards. Unsuited to Pinot Noir, these soils yield the finest expression of Gamay, the sole red grape variety of Beaujolais, as well as Chardonnay. Maison Louis Jadot has selected six of these domaines for their new Single Vineyard Crus of Beaujolais and Mâconnais.

Founded in 1859, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most highly regarded propriétaires in Burgundy, with ownership of more than 175 acres of vineyards in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Louis Jadot has forged an impeccable reputation in the Côte d'Or for making wines that achieve the purest expression of terroir. Each of the new single vineyard crus shows the character of its growth area, and more profoundly, of its own unique microclimate, revealing the delicate balance between soil, exposure, and grape variety, which Maison Louis Jadot strives for in all of its wines.

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:

When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently.  A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list.  Well, don't stop buying it because of that.  In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.

A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate.  They'll vary.  Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.

And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!  Now, all that said, here is a summary of  links to our suggestions.  Find one (or more) and pop the cork!

Read the fine print . . .

Wine consumption can have positive physical benefits or cause possible physical harm . . . the medical community is divided in some areas.  If you have any doubt, check with your doctor before consuming wine or any other alcoholic drink.

Our information is well researched.  Recommendations are based on our opinions at the time of publication.  At the same time, recommendations change.  Also, there may be significant variance in taste depending on storage, shipping, and other factors.
