Wine of the Week!
Taittinger Brute Reserve Champagne $40
With the holidays upon us, and the New Year closing in, it’s only right that our wine of the week adds some sparkle to the season. So we’re bringing you Taittinger Brut Reserve Champagne this week – and just in the nick of time!
We’ve loved Taittinger Champagnes ever since first touring their chalk caves and the twenty two million bottles of Champagne snaking their way beneath the famous city of Reims.
Taittinger is one of the great Champagne houses and the wine is delightfully bright and festive. The bubbles are ticklishly delicate. Along with the typically toasty taste of French Champagne, there are the light peach flavors of the forty percent chardonnay melded with the creamy texture that comes from the sixty percent pinot noir that make up this cuvee.
At about forty dollars a bottle this is special enough for anytime special, but it’s not outrageous for such a stylish Champagne. And that’s another reason why it’s our timely wine of the week for you. Taittinger Brut Reserve Champagne.

Winemaker’s Comments:
Taittinger Brut Réserve is a blend of Chardonnay wines (40%) and Pinot wines (60%) from 40 different vineyards and matured to perfection. Such a high proportion of Chardonnay is seldom found among the great champagnes.
The color is brilliant, golden straw yellow. The bubbles are fine. The mousse is both discreet and persistent. The nose, very expressive and open, is both fruity and bready. It exudes aromas of peach, white flowers (may blossom, acacia) and vanilla pod. On the palate, this lively fresh wine is at once in harmony. This is a delicate wine with flavors of fresh fruit and honey. In all a wine blessed with a well-developed aromatic potential. It is aged for three to four years in the cellars where it achieves perfect maturity.
Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:
When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently. A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list. Well, don't stop buying it because of that. In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.
A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate. They'll vary. Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.
And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly! Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions. Find one (or more) and pop the cork!
