Wine of the Week!
Two Hands 2005 Angel's Share Shiraz $30

We first had our wine of the week selection at a large tasting and it was the hit of the evening. We’re talking about Two Hands 2005 Angel’s Share Shiraz.
Two Hands winery is located in Australia’s Barossa Valley. Their specialty is big juicy Shiraz. And this one is certainly that!
The wine has the dense, deep purple color that comes from lots of contact with the grape skins and circulating the juice frequently during fermentation. And that gives it big flavor too. It’s jammy…like a spoonful of boysenberry preserves right out of the jar.
The neat thing is that it’s a wine that’s ready to drink without that tight tannic crunch of so many big flavored red wines. And here’s the kicker, this is a thirty dollar Shiraz with a screwtop so you can get right at it. It’s wine like this that will change the image of screwtops!
So twist the top and say Pop the Cork™ on Two Hands 2005 Angel’s Share Shiraz

Winemaker’s notes and comments:
Dark plum with bright purple hue. The nose shows dark liquorice with a meld of plum and blackberry with hints of chocolate and spice. The mouthfeel is dense and coating, with oodles of juicy rich fruit. Luscious mocha and dark berry fruit compete for attention, leaving you with a wine that is evidently drinkable now.
The 'two hands' are Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz who formed the company in 1999 with the clear objective of making the best possible Shiraz based wines from prized Shiraz producing regions within Australia.
The heart of the operation is Barossa Valley based; the cellar door and winery are located in the sub district of Marananga. Opened in December 2003 the cellar door has already come to be regarded as one of the highlights of the region with its contemporary interior design and commitment to providing guests with an educational and personal wine experience. The Marananga winery was officially opened in November 2004, designed specifically for small batch production of the very best parcels of fruit
Winemaking: The grapes were crushed into and fermented in open top potters, with regular pump over twice daily to extract flavor, color and tannin. The grapes were then pressed and the wine was transferred to tank and then racked to barrel for oak maturation.

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:
When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently. A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list. Well, don't stop buying it because of that. In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.
A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate. They'll vary. Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.
And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly! Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions. Find one (or more) and pop the cork!
