This wine is from the cool, ocean influenced Oregon coastal climate and that means ripe berry scents with just a little earthy character to give it that au naturale and classic Pinot aroma.   The Argyle is a pretty full flavored Pinot but is has a liveliness to it too and it’s food ready.  At about twenty dollars and with its wide distribution, get some for tonight’s dinner.

Spring’s here so fire up the grill and get a hunk of salmon ready for this one.  Yep, red wine with fish!  Forget the rules and just enjoy this taste of the great Northwest.  Oregon has really become America’s Pinot Noir country and this is one of the really good value Pinots from the Willamette Valley.

Winemaker's Notes and Comments:

This is what cool, marine climate Pinot Noir is all about. The intensity of aromas in this wine is truly exciting. The aromas are a tightly coiled spring of ripe Santa Rosa plum, black cherry, cassis preserves, wrapped around an earthy and mineral framework. The flavors are a viscous blend of black cherry preserves, a touch of cedar, with a juicy center wrapped in thick tannin. Argyle's characteristic 'silky' texture is actually displayed in layers in this massive wine.

Argyle Winery makes 2 to 4 Oregon Pinot Noirs per vintage: our Reserve Pinot Noir, Nuthouse Pinot Noir, Spirithouse Pinot Noir, and Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. The Reserve Pinot Noir, Nuthouse Pinot Noir, and Spirithouse Pinot Noir spend 12 to 14 months aging in French oak barrels prior to bottling while Willamette Valley spends 8 to 9 months in French oak barrels. These wines originate from some of the best vineyard sites in Oregon. Concentrated fruit flavor and firm fruit tannins will add age-ability to our Oregon Pinot Noirs

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:

When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently.  A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list.  Well, don't stop buying it because of that.  In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.

A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate.  They'll vary.  Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.

And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!  Now, all that said, here is a summary of  links to our suggestions.  Find one (or more) and pop the cork!

Read the fine print . . .

Wine consumption can have positive physical benefits or cause possible physical harm . . . the medical community is divided in some areas.  If you have any doubt, check with your doctor before consuming wine or any other alcoholic drink.

Our information is well researched.  Recommendations are based on our opinions at the time of publication.  At the same time, recommendations change.  Also, there may be significant variance in taste depending on storage, shipping, and other factors.
