Wine of the Week!
Newton 2005 "Red Label" Chardonnay $23
Our wine of the week this week is a California Chardonnay boasting a heritage that’s both Napa and Sonoma. That choice is Newton 2005 “Red Label” Chardonnay.
The Newton Chard is complex, with layers of fruit to entice you through the glass.
From whiffs of tropical pineapple to the tartness of a crunchy apple, along with the nicely rounded texture that swells in your mouth, this is chardonnay that strikes just the right balance and food friendly harmony.
Whether you’re celebrating over the roasted turkey or cracking a lobster tail during a quite evening for two.
Newton is known for artisan wines devoted to fully expressing the varietal character of the fruit. And the Red Label Chardonnay is the reflection of vineyards from both Sonoma and Napa blended to be a statement of their style with just enough oakiness and creaminess.
At about twenty three dollars a bottle, Newton 2005 Chardonnay makes for the ideal holiday dining companion whatever the occasion. The reason it’s our Wine of the Week.

Winemaker's Notes and Comments:
The 2005 vintage was one of longest and coolest growing seasons in recent memory, resulting in crisp, balanced wines with dense, well-developed flavors. Aromas of tropical fruit, white flowers and ripe pears lead to a vibrant, mouth-filling fruit basket of Fuji apple, melon, and pineapple flavors with just a hint of vanilla from a light finesse of oak. The finish is lingering and refreshing.
The balance of this wine, with its lush fruit, bright acidity and even-handed oak, make it a versatile, food-friendly choice. Try it with seafood salads, creamy pastas or risottos, or roasted poultry or pork with fruit-based sauces.
Tasting Notes
Delicate aromas of white flowers, crisp apple, fresh pear, and toasted bread translate to rich fruit flavors on the palate. A burst of freshness unfolds with flavors of citrus, pear, apple, and honeydew melon. A discreet presence of oak evolves into spring like acidity on the finish.
Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:
When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently. A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list. Well, don't stop buying it because of that. In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.
A couple of other thoughts...first, prices are approximate. They'll vary. Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.
And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly! Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions. Find one (or more) and pop the cork!
