Michigan
Wines
Today
we’re going to head for the West coast but not the one that
you may immediately think of when it comes to wine! The
west coast we’re heading for is the west coast of Michigan.
Yes,
you heard it right… the west coast of Michigan
on Lake Michigan
is home to wine country. This corner of Michigan
offers a small, but successful group of wineries nestled among
fruit orchards and near the sand dunes on the lakeshore.
The
lake actually plays a moderating influence on the weather and
the winter snows insulate and protect the dormant vines from the
cold. Since the growing season is relatively short, the
cooler weather varieties do pretty well.
So
Michigan
wineries give us Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio and some Gewürztraminer
along with Chardonnay. It’s actually not very different
from Germany, Austria and Northern Italy.

wines at the links below.
