The Wine Experience
White
Bordeaux
It’s
not unusual for wine drinkers to think of red wines when the subject
of France’s Bordeaux region comes up. But Bordeaux
also sends us some really interesting and inexpensive white wines
too. Its just that they’re kind of under the radar
since the reds get so much attention.
Most
of the white wines come from the Graves
and Entre-Deux-Mers districts. There, the primary grapes
are Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc and, as is normal in Bordeaux,
these are blended together by the winemaker to create pretty complex
wines.
The
Semillon adds suppleness to the typically acidic and tart Sauvignon
Blanc. The result is a white wine that is very pale in color
but bright and rich tasting…and a wine that’s a great
match for lots of different lighter styled foods.
Try
some as the starter wine for your next dinner gathering.
Serve white Bordeaux
chilled but not ice cold. You’ll find a nice balance
between the soft fruit flavor and refreshing zip the Sauvignon
Blanc gives it.
