Shrimp Scampi
OK - so, what goes with garlic?
Well just about anything as long as
the breath mints are handy! Seriously, when it comes to wine, garlic
can make things interesting.
Shrimp Scampi is one dish where garlic
is a key player and it's our recipe
of the week.
It's a pretty simple dish with only
a few ingredients - shrimp, salt and pepper, some white wine and
lemon juice, a bit of parsley and lots of garlic!
Our wine pick plays off those ingredients
and is the one wine that really seems to go for garlic-seasoned
foods: Sauvignon Blanc. And it doesn't matter which style you pick
- the renowned Sancerre from France, an upstart American from California
or Washington , or a brash one with a screwtop from New Zealand
.
These wines have a crackling acidity
and fold right into the shrimp scampi preparation.
But it's the mouth freshening taste
of herbs and tropical fruits that takes the garlic on head first.
Heat the pan and . . . Pop the cork™.
