Curious About Wine?
If you’re naturally curious, like most people, you probably know that that’s a part of why people like wine so much. Wine feeds your curiosity to experience new tastes and traditions, cultures and wines.
It’s even the little things that you can be curious about… like why are wine bottles different shapes? After all, the liquid inside all comes from grapes and is made by pressing out the juice, fermenting the sugars and aging it for a while, right?
Well like a lot of wine things the answer is the “T” word, you know… tradition.
One classic style is made of dark glass to protect the wine from light. It has a slender shape with high, bulging “shoulders” near the top, which help to pour off any sediment. It’s called a Bordeaux bottle.
Still another is the Champagne bottle and it has a practical reason too. The glass is much thicker with a broader base to contain the highly pressurized wine inside.
Sometimes the little things are pretty interesting. If you’re curious about wine, you can surf about it, read about it, or just sample some different tastes and give the labels a read. You’ll find some fun answers.
