The Wine Experience

Wine of the Week!
Burrell School Estate Merlot 2004 $28     Listen Now
Burrell Merlot

Just to the north of Monterey Bay are the Santa Cruz Mountains and that’s where we found our Wine of the Week. This one is a real bell ringer!

Continue your wine education with Burrell School 2004 Estate Merlot. Burrell School is a small production winery located in, yes, the old Burrell Schoolhouse.  And this estate grown Merlot is packed with more flavor than your favorite lunchbox!

Pop the cork and enjoy the wafting aroma of black cherry and vanilla then sip mouthwatering tastes of bittersweet chocolate and nutmeg.

This is a Merlot that definitely gets and A on the report card.  It is a crafted wine and it’s definitely not a cookie cutter Merlot. It’s supple and easy to drink, but has a layers of flavor which make it a bit brazen and more full bodied than most.
Burrell School Merlot is about twenty eight dollars. And just goes to show you that wine is truly a continuing education.

Pop the Cork™.

Tasting Characteristics:
Deep, opaque color followed by aromas of black cherry, mocha and spice. A rich, textured mouth feel adds extra complexity.

Past Recommendations, Picks, and Wines of the Week

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:

When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently.  A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list.  Well, don't stop buying it because of that.  In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.

A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate.  They'll vary.  Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.

And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!  Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions.  Find one (or more) and pop the cork!

Read the fine print . . .

Wine consumption can have positive physical benefits or cause possible physical harm . . . the medical community is divided in some areas.  If you have any doubt, check with your doctor before consuming wine or any other alcoholic drink.

Our information is well researched.  Recommendations are based on our opinions at the time of publication.  At the same time, recommendations change.  Also, there may be significant variance in taste depending on storage, shipping, and other factors.
