The Wine Experience

Wine of the Week!
Las Rocas Garnacha 2005   $12     Listen Now

Las Rocas WineHere’s our wine of the week pick for you – from beautiful Spain.  The wine is Las Rocas Garnacha 2005. Garnacha is what the Spanish call Grenache, the more famous named French grape from the Rhone Valley usually used in blends.

This is a wine you should know about especially because it retails for about twelve dollars.  You’ll find a lively medium bodied red whose taste reminds me of red licorice twists!  But there’s also a little cinnamon like spiciness to it.  The acidity gives it a bright crispness that makes it very versatile.

This is the kind of wine to have when you just want a glass of red or when it’s burger time – or when friends are gathered for a pan of classic Spanish paella.

You’ll love that it’s uncomplicated but still complex… there is a lot going on in this bottle for the price.

Las Rocas Garnacha 2005 is a terrific value…and our wine of the week

Winemaker’s Notes and Comments:

Rating: 90 Pts. Jay Miller - Wine Advocate
Review: The unoaked 2005 Las Rocas Garnacha is sourced from low yielding vineyards ranging in age from 70-100 years. It gives up attractive aromas of kirsch, raspberries, pepper, and damp earth. This is followed by a broad, full-flavored wine with a supple texture and no hard edges. Drink this pleasure-packed wine over the next 2-3 years.
Match: Meat Dishes

Produced by Las Rocas de San Alejandro, the Garnacha is an excellent Grenache. From the Calatayud Aragon area of Spain, this Grenache features a Dry taste and Red color.

Past Recommendations, Picks, and Wines of the Week

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:

When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently.  A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list.  Well, don't stop buying it because of that.  In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.

A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate.  They'll vary.  Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.

And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!  Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions.  Find one (or more) and pop the cork!

Read the fine print . . .

Wine consumption can have positive physical benefits or cause possible physical harm . . . the medical community is divided in some areas.  If you have any doubt, check with your doctor before consuming wine or any other alcoholic drink.

Our information is well researched.  Recommendations are based on our opinions at the time of publication.  At the same time, recommendations change.  Also, there may be significant variance in taste depending on storage, shipping, and other factors.
