The Wine Experience
Evans and Tate Chardonnay

Wine of the Week!
Evans & Tate 2006 Chardonnay Margaret River $15
Listen Now

The Margaret River area of Australia melds the strong maritime influences of the Indian Ocean with the ideal growing conditions of far southwestern Australia.  And the Evans & Tate 2006 Chardonnay from there is our wine of this week.

This is a Chardonnay that captures the sunburst flavors of the grape.

Tropical fruits tastes are just the beginning in a wine that seems ideally suited the rich and varied flavors of seafood.  From baked, stuffed prawns to shrimp on the Barbie; from linguini with clams to a simple lobster tail dipped in butter.  That citrusy fruitiness along with a creamy texture makes it the ideal complement.

This is classic “new world” chardonnay… pretty full bodied and rich… along with plenty of spicy oakiness too.  But there is also a hint of crispiness to the finish that makes me like it even more.  That, and a cost of about fifteen bucks a bottle, makes it a great choice for casual dining.

Pop the Cork.

Wine on the Radio - February 8, 2008

Wine Spectator 90 points - Polished and juicy. Lime-scented apple and star fruit flavors, finishing with a lilt of acidity and creamy oak. Drink now through 2010.

one of Australia's leading producers of premium table wines, based in the Margaret River area. Located in the South West of Australia, Margaret River is considered to be one of the New World's finest appellations. Evans and Tate now fully owned by the McWilliams family.

Bright and juicy with nectarine, passion fruit, honeydew melon, a little dab of cream and light spicy dusty oak. On the palate fresh and crisp with fresh pineapple, nectarine and grapefruit, just a touch of creaminess and a little spicy oak. It’s a bit pithy and pulpy with some gentle grip and astringency and finishes dry and spicy with a slight passion fruit skin bitterness. Here's our site.

Past Recommendations, Picks, and Wines of the Week

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:

When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently.  A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list.  Well, don't stop buying it because of that.  In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.

A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate.  They'll vary.  Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.

And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!  Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions.  Find one (or more) and pop the cork!

Read the fine print . . .

Wine consumption can have positive physical benefits or cause possible physical harm . . . the medical community is divided in some areas.  If you have any doubt, check with your doctor before consuming wine or any other alcoholic drink.

Our information is well researched.  Recommendations are based on our opinions at the time of publication.  At the same time, recommendations change.  Also, there may be significant variance in taste depending on storage, shipping, and other factors.
