Wine of the Week!

St.
George Saint Georges St. Emilion 2003 $26      Listen Now

This week, our weekly recommendation is a tongue twister so give this a try:  Chateau St. George, Saint Georges St Chateau St George Merlot Cabernet BordeauxEmilion 2003.

Did you make it through first time?  Either way, it’s a lovely wine from this right bank appellation of Bordeaux.

The right bank of course is home to Merlot driven wines and our Chateau St. George is about 60% Merlot which gives it an approachable softness along with the deep red fruitiness characteristic of the grape.

To us it brings to mind Bing cherry and mocha… but then some Cabernet adds the density and darker tastes of blackberry and currant.  The tannins are firm but not sharp which adds depth and character.

2003 was a ripe vintage and this wine is ready to drink. For about twenty six dollars it's a nicely fashioned Bordeaux to bring to the table…and a very good value from the slightly lesser known Saint Georges St. Emilion designation.

Châteaux St. George is a highly regarded Bordeaux producer and our delicious choice for wine of the week.

Wine of the Week - February 15, 2008

Château Saint-Georges, Saint-Georges-Saint-Emilion is produced exclusively from estate-grown vines, It is made and bottled at the château by the proprietor himself. For forty years and more the wine has been sold direct to a private clientele of loyal wine-lovers.

A first among equals, this genuine Château wine embodies all the qualities one has come to expect of the Saint-Emilion region: a long, frank flavour, an original savour, a pure deep purple hue and a broad, generous bouquet.

Past Recommendations, Picks, and Wines of the Week

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:

When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently.  A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list.  Well, don't stop buying it because of that.  In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.

A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate.  They'll vary.  Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.

And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!  Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions.  Find one (or more) and pop the cork!
