Wine of the Week!
Ferrari
Carano Fume Blanc 2004 $15

OK
– here’s our Wine of the Week. It’s a
special Sauvignon Blanc from Sonoma County – the Ferrari
Carano 2004 Fume Blanc.
This
wine is a stylish alternative to chardonnay. We find it
a bit more full tasting than many Sauvignon Blanc... with some
of hints of vanilla from time spent in oak. But it’s
still got that crispness that gives it food friendliness.
This
is a terrific starter wine especially with shellfish or smoked
salmon but it makes an ideal sipper when the mood just strikes
you for a glass of white. Don’t expect that grassy
sauvignon flavor; Ferrari Carano Fume is more fruity…
There’s
a richness to this wine… it may remind you of a ripe honeydew
melon. And at about fifteen dollars this is a wine to stock
up on when you see it.
The
winery uses grapes from their vineyards around the Russian River,
Dry Creek and Alexander Valley And the blending adds
complexity to our wine of the week…

Comments:
Well-balanced and crisp, this wine is a distinctive blend of grapes
harvested from ten vineyard blocks in the Alexander, Dry Creek
and Russian River Valleys. We blend this wine from the finest
fruit of these three appellations.
Honeydew melon and fresh herb aromas and flavors are evident in
this light-bodied white wine. Our Fume Blanc is stylistically
treated in the chardonnay style. The crisp, lingering finish shows
subtle oak character blended with classic herbal, earthy Sauvignon
Blanc characteristics.

Notes
on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:
When you read our thoughts,
please remember that you may think differently. A particular wine
may be your favorite and not on our list. Well, don't stop buying
it because of that. In fact, you may want to email
us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our
FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.
A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices
are approximate. They'll vary. Second, different vintages mean
different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for
a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.
And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!
Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions.
Find one (or more) and pop the cork!
