Wine of the Week!
Fonterutoli Chianti Classico 2002 $25
Chianti are among our favorite wines and we’ve got a super pick for wine of the week:
Fonterutoli Chianti Classico 2002.
From the heart of Chianti Classico in the picture perfect rolling hills near Siena and Castellina, Fonterutoli makes opulent wine. This Classico has all the exuberant characteristics of its Sangiovese.
Pour a sip and you’ll taste the lush combination of bright and mellow. To us it’s like dried cherries with plums along with scents of Tuscan violets. And while it’s silky tasting and smooth… another reason I’m so fond of this Chianti is the zippy acidity.
That’s why you should pour this with your favorite pasta dishes sure… but it perfectly complements the sizzling grilled or roasted meats so much a part of Tuscan cooking.
Our favorite brings us back to Siena; grilled strip steak rubbed with garlic then sliced and covered with arugula.
Fonterutoli Chianti Classico is about twenty five dollars… worth every penny and our wine of the week!

Wine on the Radio - February 8, 2008
Wine Spectator 89 points - Lots of meat, berry and plum character on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, rich finish. Decadent style that I like. Serious quality for the vintage. No Castello in 2002, so this was upgraded. Drink now. 16,665 cases made.
Castello di Fonterutoli, source of some of Italy's most prestigious wines, is an historic property embracing an entire tranquil, centuries-old hamlet just south of Castellina in Chianti, in the heart of Chianti Classico. The estate has been in the hands of the Mazzei family – devoted to winemaking for 24 generations – since 1435 and is today led by Lapo Mazzei and his sons, Francesco and Filippo.

Notes
on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:
When you read our thoughts,
please remember that you may think differently. A particular wine
may be your favorite and not on our list. Well, don't stop buying
it because of that. In fact, you may want to email
us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our
FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.
A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices
are approximate. They'll vary. Second, different vintages mean
different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for
a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.
And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!
Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions.
