Wine of the Week!
The Black Chook Shiraz Viognier 2006 $17

Our wine of the week this week is The Black Chook 2006 Shiraz Viognier from South Australia. But what the heck is a Chook!?
Well leave it to the Aussies! A Chook is a chicken. So that’s what’s on the label - a black chicken. But inside the bottle is a dark, intense and rustic big red wine.
This is a mouthful of Shiraz with Viognier blended in to smooth the edges and add unique qualities too, like a whiff of flowers to take the rust out of rustic!
It has the flavor of dark cherries with licorice and spicy cloves… an altogether exotic taste. The wine is deep purple and proudly big flavored and priced at about seventeen dollars so it goes great with gatherings and is perfect for pizza. Try it with heartier foods too. You’re going to find that beef stew is a natural!
The Black Chook Shiraz Viognier is a wine of the week with a bit of a wallop from Woop Woop Winery…

Notes and Comments:
Wine Spectator 88 points - Polished and round, with Viognier's distinctive spicy lychee tang adding something to the ripe berry flavors. Finishes smooth. Drink now through 2013.
The Black Chook is sourced from two of the best known wine growing regions in South Australia, namely McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. Co-fermenting small amounts of Viognier skins with Shiraz adds a wonderful apricot perfume, at the same time as intensifying the deep rich color and velvety mouthfeel of the wine

Recommendations, Picks, and Wines of the Week
Notes
on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:
When you read our thoughts,
please remember that you may think differently. A particular wine
may be your favorite and not on our list. Well, don't stop buying
it because of that. In fact, you may want to email
us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our
FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.
A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices
are approximate. They'll vary. Second, different vintages mean
different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for
a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.
And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!
Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions.
Find one (or more) and pop the cork!
