Wine of the Week!
Perrin Les Christins Vacqueyras 2005   $24     Listen NowPerrin Vacqueyras 2005

This week, we’ve got a Wine of the Week that is a real mouthful!  The wine Perrin Les Christins Vacqueyras 2005.

But by mouthful we don’t mean the name; it’s a mouthful of big flavor.  This is a big red wine from the Rhone Valley of France.  Vacqueyras is a village there and this is a blend that’s three quarters Grenache and a quarter Syrah.

Perrin is one of the great names of the Rhone and the Perrin Vacqueyras is about twenty four dollars.  When you taste it there’s no doubt this is a full bodied wine with deep, dark, dense fruit flavors.

What’s the darkest fruit you can name? Ripe plum? Red currant? Blackberries?
Doesn’t really matter; the wine is just plain delicious and not shy about its taste!
With a wine with this much flavor there’s really one basic question, so how is it with food?

Well fire up the grill and toss on the steak.  This wine is made for meat!

Pop the Cork™.

Wine on the Radio – August 8, 2008

Winemaker’s Notes and Comments:

Wine Spectator 2005 points - Packed with ripe fig, licorice and currant paste flavors, backed by cocoa and graphite notes. Dark, muscular finish has some serious grip too, so cellar a touch to let it round into form.

Blend: 75% Grenache, 25% Syrah.

Clearly a wine from a warm place, with its amber hues and richness of texture. The nose is reminiscent of morello cherries, flowers and licorice. On the palate it shows an unctuous texture and is rich and concentrated.

This is a fine bottle from a great terroir. It will go perfectly with beef, lamb and dishes containing black truffles.

Past Recommendations, Picks, and Wines of the Week

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:

When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently.  A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list.  Well, don't stop buying it because of that.  In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.

A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate.  They'll vary.  Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.

And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!  Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions.  Find one (or more) and pop the cork!

Read the fine print . . .

Wine consumption can have positive physical benefits or cause possible physical harm . . . the medical community is divided in some areas.  If you have any doubt, check with your doctor before consuming wine or any other alcoholic drink.

Our information is well researched.  Recommendations are based on our opinions at the time of publication.  At the same time, recommendations change.  Also, there may be significant variance in taste depending on storage, shipping, and other factors.
