Wine of the Week!
Frescobaldi 2004 Pomino Rosso   $25     Listen NowFrescobaldi di pomino 2004

Here at The Wine Experience® we love creative winemaking, so here’s a unique Wine of the Week.  Our creative choice is the 2004 Pomino Rosso from Frescobaldi.

It’s Sangiovese with a unique twist, the addition of Pinot Noir and a dash of Merlot.

No simple Chianti here!  Each grape brings its own character and contribution to the wine. That makes this a wonderful wine to discover.  The color is deep purple red and the first whiff is like bunch of spring violets.  But swirl and sniff again and it’s like you’ve been out picking wild berries!

Then, when you taste it, bam – a buoyant blast of black cherries and white pepper spiciness with a nice zip of acidity and soft tannins.  It’s a wine made for the Italian foods of its homeland.

It pairs perfectly with roast pork, or anything with the added earthiness of mushrooms in pasta or risotto, or with one of our favorites, a classic spaghetti Bolognese.

Pomino Rosso is about twenty five dollars so get cooking!

Wine of the Week – August 15, 2008

Winemaker’s Notes and Comments:
Pomino Rosso DOC Sangiovese with a small percentage of Merlot and Pinot Nero, Pomino Rosso, a careful blend of sangiovese and pinot noir, is an elegant, velvet-smooth wine with subtle aromas of dark cherry and wild berry fruit.

Tasting Notes
Pomino Rosso exhibits a lively, purple-veined ruby. Full-fruited aromas in which dark cherry and wild red berries predominate, which are then enriched by pungent spice and wild herbs. One notices exceptional balance in the mouth, where a judicious alcohol melds nicely with well-calibrated tannins and a tangy, delicious acidity. It concludes with a savoury finale that is sustained and expansive.

Within the Chianti region the Marchesi de' Frescobaldi land stretches from Pomino Doc across Brunello di Montalcino, Morellino di Scansano, continuing on through Mugello until the province of Livorno. Since the 1700's proven ability, experience, passion and love has produced a superior quality of wine derived from this region.  1000 hectares of operating vineyards, divided into 9 properties, where the perfect relationship between atmosphere and the skilled use of raw materials, permits Frescobaldi the ability to guarantee the quality and unique personality of each wine.

Past Recommendations, Picks, and Wines of the Week

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:

When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently.  A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list.  Well, don't stop buying it because of that.  In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.

A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate.  They'll vary.  Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.

And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!  Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions.  Find one (or more) and pop the cork!

Read the fine print . . .

Wine consumption can have positive physical benefits or cause possible physical harm . . . the medical community is divided in some areas.  If you have any doubt, check with your doctor before consuming wine or any other alcoholic drink.

Our information is well researched.  Recommendations are based on our opinions at the time of publication.  At the same time, recommendations change.  Also, there may be significant variance in taste depending on storage, shipping, and other factors.
