New Zealand is an influential and bountiful wine country, and while it may be a faraway place, New Zealand wines are finding fans around the world.
The Marlborough district of South Island is the place for sauvignon Blanc.
These have really become New Zealand 's signature wines with their grassy crispiness and tropical fruit flavors . . . fun to drink alone or with lots of different foods.
On the North Island there's Hawke's Bay, where most of the reds are grown, especially cabernet sauvignon, along with chardonnay too.
Maybe it's the distance, but New Zealanders are proud to do things their own way.
Just as an example, they lead the world in the move to screwcaps. They think wine should be fun and accessible. No argument from us here at The Wine Experience!
What else is coming? Keep your eyes pealed for New Zealand pinot noir to start showing up at your wine shop.
The first releases are just starting to reach us and these could be real winners.
