Gallo of Sonoma Barelli Creek 2002 Barbera: The Wine Experience

This week our Wine of the Week pick for you is tied up in lots of history and from one of the most famous names in wine: Gallo.

Gallo of Sonoma 2002 Barrelli Creek Barbera comes from vineyards originally planted by Italian immigrants in the Alexander Valley of Sonoma. This Barbera is a great example of the Cal-Italia movement

Barbera is the classically red berry-ish and slightly earthy everyday wine of Italy’s Piedmont but this has the ripe full fruitiness we expect of California. This gives it a richer texture.

There’s a zing of acidity, too, that makes it easy to drink with lots of different foods, from a grilled turkey burger to roasted chicken, or just about any pasta with tomato based sauce.

Winemaker Gina Gallo takes the family heritage and puts it in a wine made for today’s tastes. This is quality wine meant to stand tall on any table and our Wine of the Week, Gallo of Sonoma 2002 Barrelli Creek Barbera.

Pop the cork™.

Gina Gallo’s Description:

Our Gallo of Sonoma Barrelli Creek Vineyard Barbera has aromas of dried cherry, raspberry, cranberry, rose, and rosemary, balanced with hints of sweet, toasty French oak. The mouthfeel is highlighted by rich fruit flavors and enhanced by the bright acidity of a great Barbera

The warmest of our Sonoma County vineyards, Barrelli Creek Vineyard has soils comprised of gravel, sand, silt, and clay. The unique soil and warm climate add richness, depth and intensity to the Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera, and Zinfandel grapes grown here.

Past Recommendations, Picks, and Wines of the Week

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:

When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently. A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list. Well, don't stop buying it because of that. In fact, you may want to EMAIL us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.

A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate. They'll vary. Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.

And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly! Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions. Find one (or more) and pop the cork!
