Summer time is a favorite time for cool white wines. Here's some further thinking from Gourmet Magazine Wine Consultant Michael Green:
"I generally like to drink wine in the summer outdoors when the weather is great. So I try to avoid wines that are really high in alcohol.
So I think the Mosul area of Germany or the Marlborough region of New Zealand. These wines are generally crisp, more modest in alcohol, and I also like wines that have a touch of residual sugar for the summer. So I'll look to wines whether it be white Zinfandel, German Riesling or a very fruit forward Sauvignon Blanc for whites."

Dry Creek 2002 Fume Blanc $12
Sonoma County , California
Winemaker's Notes
The wine that is the cornerstone of Dry Creek Vineyard continues its nod toward traditional Sauvignon Blanc in the true Sancerre style. Brisk but balanced flavors of lemon-lime are charged with tropical fruit and bright acid, continuing into a long, memorable finish
Villa Maria 2003 Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc $14
New Zealand
Winemaker's Notes
Bright and fruity, with straightforward apple, peach and passion fruit flavors that stay fresh through the finish
Bonny Doon 2002 Pacific Rim Dry Riesling $10
Central Coast, California
Winemaker's Notes
We contrived to boost the acid a little bit, picking the grapes a little earlier and the result is a fresher, more vibrant wine with greater retention of primary fruit. Very distinctive green apple and elder-blossom Mosel nose
Dom. Schlumberger 1999 Prince Abbes Riesling $17
Alsace, France
Winemaker's Notes
Reveals the elegance of the variety - fruity, dry and virile
Trimbach 2001 Riesling $18
Alsace , France
Winemaker's Notes
This wine is pale golden in color with a greenish tinge. On the nose it has developed aromas of minerals, with a slight petrol note. On the palate it is full, again slightly mineral, with grapefruit and lemon-like fruit. The ripeness is balanced by good fresh acidity and great length.
