Domaine du Chorey, Chorey les Beaune for $27: The Wine Experience

Domaine du Chorey, Chorey les Beaune $27

A few years ago we took a trip to the Burgundy region of France and visited a village called Beaune. It’s the home of Domaine du Chorey and our wine of the week pick… Chorey les Beaune.

The red wines of Burgundy are one hundred percent Pinot Noir and in our book, they’re one hundred percent delicious too.

The Chorey les Beaune has complexity and balance. Sure there’s luscious ripe cherry flavor that’s like a dense fruit tart when you sip it but with a more muscular and somewhat earthy character too.

Earthy, mushroomy and leather-like aromas and tastes are pretty typical of Burgundy. It’s what really sets them apart from California and Oregon Pinot Noir.

The wines, like this Chorey les Beaune, seem to capture the ground of their birthplace more distinctly so, for a sip of the terroir of Burgundy, try our wine of the week for about twenty seven dollars.

Winemaker’s Notes and Comments

"Good full red. Very ripe, slightly wild aromas of cherry, leather, meat and earth. Round, fat and sweet, with a chewy texture to the flavors of dark cherry and earth. Good solid wine." Reviewed by Stephen Tanzer.

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:

When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently. A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list. Well, don't stop buying it because of that. In fact, you may want to EMAIL us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.

A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate. They'll vary. Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.

And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly! Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions. Find one (or more) and pop the cork!
